Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after spring of that year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional title, took control to force a final set.

He rescued four early chances in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
